Guy Du Cheyne (°1964) is a sculptor whose work explores the interaction between humans and nature.
Throughout his career, he has worked on various projects for museums, theatre, television, and public spaces. His art invites introspection and confronts the viewer with the question: "How does humanity relate to nature, and what role do power (human) and faith play in this relationship?"
Guy Du Cheyne grew up in Wachtebeke, a region rich in nature, where dry and wet areas alternate with forests and meadows.
Bordering both natural and industrial zones, this environment proved to be a lasting source of inspiration. His work challenges us to reflect on the relationship between people and their surroundings, a theme that runs like a common thread throughout his oeuvre.
His artistic education began at Sint-Lucas in Ghent, where he studied Visual Arts in secondary school and then specialized in sculpture. He later briefly taught at Sint-Lucas himself, just before completing his then-mandatory military service.
For over three decades, he has been a lecturer in spatial design at the Technical Institute Heilige Familie in Bruges, where he passes on his knowledge and passion for sculpture and design to new generations.
Throughout his career, Guy Du Cheyne has worked on various projects for museums, theatre and opera productions, television, businesses, and fellow artists. He has also received commissions for public art installations across several cities and municipalities.
His own work lies within the tension between humanity and nature. He explores this relationship as well as the interaction between nature and religion. Through his art, he invites us to reflect: how do we relate to our environments, and what influence do power and faith have on the way we perceive and treat nature?
